2025 - 2028 Strategy
Evolving together: Making social investment work better for charities and social enterprises
The above is an h2 heading. It should only be used once, at the very top of the main content, as an intro heading. It has no top margin, so if used lower down the page it will look odd!
Compare how this page looks on the "front end" to how it looks in the cms. Please make sure to read the content on this page as I have included notes!
Please note, this is a "private" post, which means it is only visible if you are a logged in user. The public will not see it.
Here is a link to an anchor on the same page (see below)
Headings should be h2, h3 and h4 levels. Heading one should not be used in the main content. If you make sure your formatting makes sense semantically then the content should automatically take on the appropriate styling. Avoid using h1 in the main content.
Inline styles available are bold, italic, subscriptx and superscriptx.
Any extra "custom" styles for this theme can be found in the "formats" drop down menu.
You can also add horizontal lines.
There are no hard and fast rules, other than to do what will be most useful for visitors. However for SEO purposes it is recommended that a post or page should be at least 300 words long. because this is a sample post it may well be longer than that! There are many online tools that allow you to easily check the length of posts.
There is lots of online info about writing for the web. Find out more about writing good web content.
Remember also that the WordPress SEO plugin analysis tool gives advice about your content, including the following (in bullet (or "unordered") list format):
That was a bullet (unordered) list. Here's a number (ordered) list.
Below is a "blockquote". Please note, at the moment the tag is not available in the editor buttons, if you want to use it you will need to add it in "code" view.
The HTML
Element (or HTML Block Quotation Element) indicates that the enclosed text is an extended quotation. Usually, this is rendered visually by indentation. A URL for the source of the quotation may be given using the cite attribute, while a text representation of the source can be given using the element.
The Scream by Edward Munch. Painted in 1893.
It is easy to create links. While it is possible to select "Open link in a new window/tab" it is considered bad practice to do so.
Anchors within a page (see the link at the top of this page) are a little more complicated, because WordPress has an annoying habit of "tidying up" (ie removing) anchors made with the visual editor. If you need to add Anchors within a page you will have to add an "id" to the appropriate tag, in "text" view. If in doubt let us know so we can give you detailed instructions.
Here's a table made with the editor.
row1 col1 | row1 col2 | row1 col3 | row1 col4 |
row2 col1 | row2 col2 | row2 col3 | row2 col4 |
row3 col1 | row3 col2 | row3 col3 | row3 col4 |
There are two basic options.
The image above is full width. This is done by selecting alignment > none and size > full size. It has a caption, which canbe added either in the media library or here on the edit screen. You do not type the caption into the cms editor, you add it by editing the caption metadata associated with this image. It also has a media credit. Again, this i snot typed in with the cms editor, it is added as metadata in the media library, and will then display automatically.
Any image given the align left or align right property will automatically become 33% width. This is primarily intended for portrait orientation images that would look too large at full width.
Here is the same image aligned right. When adding small images to pages, take care that they do not make the page look messy. You may need to tweak the page content a little to make it tidy.
Videos should be added to the site as a "custom post" in the "Videos" section of the cms, then inserted into pages with shortcodes. It is not as hard as it sounds, instructions on how to do this are provided in the Videos section.
