Rethinking Subsidy: lessons from social investment on good growth
Policy and Advocacy Manager, Alex Bunker, looks at the lessons from social investment in using subsidy as a tool for delivering good growth
The Growth Fund is a combination of up to £22.5 million grant from Big Lottery Fund and up to £22.5 million loan from Big Society Capital to address the gap in the social investment market. It will do this by offering affordable smaller size (up to £150,000), higher risk finance, via Social Investment Finance Intermediaries (SIFIs), to frontline social enterprises and charities who are new to social investment. SIFIs will be to apply to Access for both grant and loan to invest in these social enterprises and charities, which are looking to grow their enterprising activity and be more self sustaining.
The Growth Fund will be open for applications in May. Please visit the Growth Fund pages for further details
