Rethinking Subsidy: lessons from social investment on good growth
Policy and Advocacy Manager, Alex Bunker, looks at the lessons from social investment in using subsidy as a tool for delivering good growth

A fund from Resonance that works with communities to deliver the assets they need to develop and become more resilient. The fund was initially focused on three areas: Cornwall, Gloucestershire and the North West but now welcomes enquiries from across England.
The fund provides development finance through loans to support the construction or refurbishment of community assets across the UK and can also support pre-development loans via community shares or interest free loans to help projects reach the development stage.
Investments support communities to take ownership of neighbourhood assets that meet local needs, contribute to place-making, and generate social, environmental, and financial returns.
It uses funding from Flexible Finance for the Recovery to enable the provision of long-term, flexible investment products, particularly for organisations where financial returns are uncertain or lower than conventional investment thresholds.
